Job Description
This contract-to-hire position offers the opportunity to operate both sit-down and stand-up forklifts while handling materials throughout a clean, climate-controlled production facility that manufactures copper cable and wire. You will safely move, stack, and stage materials and finished products, support production with accurate inventory handling, and perform basic computer data entry. The role primarily involves 12-hour rotating night shifts, with one position on a fixed 8-hour night schedule, and can lead to a permanent position in final packaging on a 3rd shift rotating schedule.
Responsibilities
- Operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts/tow motors safely and efficiently throughout the plant.
- Stack, handle, and move products, skids, finished goods, materials, scrap, trash, and equipment without damage.
- Organize and stage work-in-process (WIP) inventory in secondary operations to support efficient production flow.
- Read and understand reel tags, scrap tags, tally sheets, and inventory tags to move materials correctly through the plant.
- Move and lay out materials and products required for manufacturing as directed by supervisors or production instructions.
- Pick up and stack materials and products that need to be moved, stored, or staged for production.
- Safely move equipment around the facility without causing damage.
- Accurately count and record quantities moved, stacked, and staged on inventory forms, tally sheets, and related documentation.
- Collect and dispose of purge, scrap, and trash generated by manufacturing in accordance with documented procedures.
- Clean and organize various areas of the plant as required by the supervisor to maintain a safe and orderly work area.
- Use a computer for basic data entry to document and track production, inventory movements, and scrap.
- Perform simple mathematics to complete and maintain tally sheets, inventory sheets, inventory tags, and scrap weight records.
- Follow a specific set of written and verbal instructions to complete tasks accurately and safely.
- Work assigned night shift schedules, including 12-hour rotating nights or 8-hour fixed nights, as required by the operation.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience operating both sit-down and stand-up forklifts/tow motors in a production or warehouse environment.
- Strong attention to safety when operating forklifts and handling materials and equipment.
- Ability to follow a specific set of written and verbal instructions consistently and accurately.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to perform simple data entry to document and track production and inventory.
- Ability to perform simple mathematics to complete tally sheets, inventory records, and scrap weight documentation.
- Ability to read and understand reel tags, scrap tags, tally sheets, and inventory tags.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to work night shifts, including 12-hour rotating schedules or 8-hour fixed schedules, as assigned.
- No forklift certification required, but practical operating experience is essential.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in production, packing, or quality-related work in a manufacturing environment.
- Work experience in material handling, inventory, picking, shipping, and receiving operations.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced production facility with ongoing material movement.
- Ability to maintain organization and cleanliness in work areas while managing multiple tasks.
- Reliability and punctuality to support continuous shift operations.

Work Environment
The role is based in a very clean, climate-controlled production facility that manufactures copper cable and wire, although it can still feel warm at times due to equipment and processes. Forklifts, tow motors, and basic computer systems are used daily to support production and inventory control. Night shifts are standard: three roles work 12-hour rotating nights from 6:55 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (Week 1: Sunday, Monday, Friday, Saturday; Week 2: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), and one role works Sunday through Thursday from midnight to 8:00 a.m. Once fully transitioned, some positions work 12-hour shifts and are paid for all 12 hours. Breaks are covered by a relief person and may not occur at the exact same time each night. A dress code applies, and safety-toed boots or shoes are required at all times in the facility, including during interviews and tours.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
