Principal Electrical Engineer / Technical Project Lead

Position Summary

This senior-level role brings deep expertise and broad experience to the design and development of complex electronic hardware for acute care medical devices. The Principal Electrical Engineer / Technical Project Lead serves as a technical authority and, when required, a project leader, driving innovative and independent solutions to challenging product development problems. The role is responsible for the overall electrical design of major new products or significant upgrades to existing platforms and may also lead project execution by overseeing personnel, schedules, and budgets. This position works independently based on project objectives and interfaces directly with senior R&D leadership. The role may supervise project teams of 1–15 engineers and contributors.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership (25%)
    • Serve as project manager for product development initiatives, including supervision of personnel, task assignments, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Electrical Technical Leadership
    • Act as Electrical Task Leader on highly complex hardware development projects, overseeing technical execution, staffing, and schedules.
  • Electrical Architecture & Requirements (25%)
    • Lead electrical requirements definition with a focus on feasibility, systems analysis, hardware/software tradeoffs, and interface design.
    • Serve as chief electrical architect on complex development programs.
  • Hardware Design & Development (30%)
    • Independently design and develop highly complex and mission‑critical electronic hardware solutions.
  • Documentation (10%)
    • Provide significant contributions to hardware documentation, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and traceability.
  • Systems Engineering (5%)
    • Play a key role in overall systems engineering and contribute significantly to system-level requirements for new products and product modifications.
  • Technical Review & Mentorship (5%)
    • Serve as a senior technical reviewer for electrical designs, code, and documentation across product lines.
    • Share expertise and mentor other electrical engineers within the organization.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline (required)
  • Master’s degree preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electronic hardware design
  • Proven experience across all phases of the electrical development lifecycle
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in technical and/or project settings

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Demonstrated track record of technical excellence in electronics design and product development
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional and executive stakeholders

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Irvine, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr.
