Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Description
This Electrical Engineer role focuses on troubleshooting existing hardware products and designing robust, production-ready PCB solutions using Altium or similar design tools. You will diagnose and resolve issues occurring in the field, improve current designs, and contribute to new product development while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. The position combines hands-on hardware debugging, PCB schematic and layout work, and the design of test fixtures and configurations to ensure reliable, high-quality products.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot existing hardware products to identify root causes of issues occurring in the field and implement effective design or configuration corrections.
- Analyze and improve current electrical designs to enhance reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
- Design PCB schematics and layouts, ensuring integration of components and communication protocols such as Bluetooth, cellular, and UART.
- Utilize Altium or comparable PCB design suites to create, modify, and maintain detailed design documentation, including schematics, layouts, and BOMs.
- Design test fixtures and test configurations to validate hardware performance and support ongoing product quality and reliability testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members in engineering, product, and operations to support current products and contribute to new product development.
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations on electrical components, circuit board design, and hardware architecture throughout the product lifecycle.
- Support field and internal teams by reviewing reported hardware issues, recommending solutions, and implementing design updates as needed.
- Participate in design reviews, providing feedback on electrical design, PCB layout, and test strategies.
- Document troubleshooting findings, design changes, and test results in a clear and organized manner to support future maintenance and product improvements.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, with electrical engineering preferred.
- Approximately 4 years of experience troubleshooting electrical components and circuit boards in a professional, non-academic environment.
- Proven experience in electrical schematic design and PCB layout, including integration of components into complete PCB designs.
- Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience with both analog and digital circuits.
- Proficiency with PCB design tools, with strong preference for Altium; experience with other professional PCB design suites will also be considered.
- Ability to design and review PCBs that incorporate communication protocols such as Bluetooth, cellular, and UART.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles across analog and digital domains.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to support both existing products and new product development.
- Capability to design and implement test fixtures and test configurations for hardware validation.
- Experience translating field issues and test results into actionable design improvements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using Altium for end-to-end PCB schematic capture, layout, and documentation.
- Experience in both analog and digital hardware design and debugging.
- Experience supporting products deployed in the field, including analysis of field data and issue replication.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to root cause analysis for hardware issues.
- Ability to clearly document design decisions, test procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Comfort working in a hybrid environment and collaborating with team members both in-person and remotely.
Work Environment
This role operates in a flexible hybrid work model, combining office-based work with the option to work from home for a portion of the time. Team members typically spend at least one day per week in the office to collaborate in person, particularly on hands-on hardware activities such as troubleshooting, testing, and working with lab equipment. The organization offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes unlimited PTO with encouraged usage, numerous paid holidays, strong medical, dental, and vision plans, a 401(k) plan with company match eligibility after 45 days, and access to supplemental insurance options. The culture supports work-life balance, flexibility, and collaboration across engineering and product teams, providing an environment where you can work on both current product support and new product development using modern PCB design tools and standard office and lab equipment.
