Pharmacy Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on accurately filling daily prescription orders in a closed-door pharmacy setting while maintaining high production standards and supporting a technology-driven workflow. You will work behind the scenes with an educated team, using modern systems to process medications efficiently and safely in a predictable, rotating schedule environment.
Responsibilities
- Fill daily prescription orders, including punch cards, bulk items, over-the-counter (OTC) products, compounded medications, cassette fills, and prepackaged medications.
- Print and organize daily orders for the pharmacy, ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurate.
- Print labels and delivery sheets and match them correctly to the corresponding prescription orders.
- Stock and restock medication inventory, maintaining accurate counts and proper organization of all medications and supplies.
- Follow all pharmacy procedures and regulatory requirements when handling, preparing, and packaging medications.
- Maintain a strong sense of urgency to meet and sustain established production metrics and turnaround times.
- Use data entry systems and pharmacy technology to enter, review, and update prescription and inventory information with a high level of accuracy.
- Collaborate with pharmacy staff to resolve any issues related to prescription fills, inventory discrepancies, or order documentation.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area that supports efficient pharmacy operations.
- Adapt to a dynamic, growing, and technology-driven environment where processes are continually refined and improved.
Essential Skills
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the State of Minnesota or ability to become registered; state registration is required and national certification alone does not qualify.
- Minimum of 6 months of pharmacy experience filling prescriptions in settings such as retail or hospital pharmacies.
- Previous hands-on experience with prescription filling processes, including handling punch cards, bulk items, OTCs, compounding, cassettes, or prepackaged medications.
Work Environment
This position is based in a closed-door pharmacy environment with no direct customer-facing responsibilities. You will work in a setting with a large medication inventory and a strong focus on technology-driven processes. The atmosphere has a growing, start-up feel where the team continues to refine workflows and systems. You will have your own cubicle and work alongside educated professionals in a structured, production-focused environment. The schedule follows rotating day and evening shifts, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., alternating weeks between first and second shift. The closing shift remains on-site until all delivery runs are complete, which can extend beyond 10:30 p.m. Candidates must be available for both first and second shifts, as availability for only one shift is not sufficient. In addition, every third weekend is required, with Saturday hours from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday hours from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The environment emphasizes efficiency, accuracy, and collaboration while offering predictable scheduling and a non-retail, behind-the-scenes pharmacy experience.
